It has been 1 year since I've raced. Very unbelievable. This has been my longest break since I started running. However, today was my name sake's run so I could not pass it up. I honestly went into this run thinking 80 min wouldn't be beyond expectations and if stars aligned maybe in the 70s. But the weather was perfect and when I step on the line a switch goes off and I'm in the zone. I did approach it the same as last year, starting a few rows back and slowly picking people off the first couple miles. With the field ahead further dwindling as people turn back for the 5K and 10K turnarounds. But after the 10K turnaround and I realized I was in 3rd place something took over. I just pushed and somehow kept pushing. I did drop my glove and one point and thought there was someone within striking distance at 8 miles but by the finish I was running more than solo and the only entertainment was passing the 10K runners. The same Utah guy as last year beat me, this time in 2nd by only a few seconds to a much younger runner. I am so happy I did this race and cannot believe my time, my place, and how I felt while running with what my training has been.

A break does you good, makes you long for something that once was, and makes you hungry for more. Great race:)
