Single: A few catch up matters. Saturday I did drive the course with Sandra. She wanted to see the full thing and find out places to “watch” and I wanted to see the second half. I’m glad we went for the drive the second half is very different from the first. Much flatter as I knew but also a good number of turns. Finally as people have warned the stretch on Van Winkle is a little mind numbing. Even driving it I thought it would never end… Overall, I’m glad we drove it and I may want to at least drive the second half one more time before race day.

Today was much like yesterday but my head was on straighter. Another 7-hrs sleep, in work at 7am, and then a very full day of experiments. I initially had planned two runs today but since I didn’t get my first break until about 3pm I decided to just do one run. I also decided that with the lower mileage now on my calendar and the lead in my head I needed some speed work. So I went to Memory Grove and up City Creek. I did 1mi warmup, 3 at "MP" Avg. 5:55 exactly, 3 easier, 3 at "MP" Avg. 5:39 down City Creek though, and then 4 easier. The effort was much harder than I would have liked for the mostly aided MP stretches but it was still great to get moving and feel like I could run. The weather was just fantastic! First shirtless day of the year! I love it when I get to break out the sunblock and have that scent in my nose the whole run. On another side note, I noticed that on the Garmin training center you can select running and it gives you a summary of ALL miles logged. So since the end of Nov when I got the Garmin I’ve run with it for 1148 mi at an avg. pace of 7:38 and HR 145. Mi 14-T1 Avg. 6:58 HR 160

Nice run Adam, and really doing one run at some MP pace miles for 14 miles is a better benefit than two runs at equal distance.

I remember the course from two years ago and your right about the turns and the one long stretch that lasts forever. Also remember a some uphill at mile 7 or 9, but it really is a flat course. I like the section when you enter the downtown, that's cool and then entering the finish at the Greenway.

Thanks Kory.

By even pace splits from the course tool mile 13 is the slowest, then 9, 6, 7 and 3. The second half is more or less close to even effort... I'm still struggling with my plan for the race. I want to shoot for the 2:35 but being a 5min PR effort on a tougher course I'm not sure. I'm starting to think about going out at a 2:40 pace through that first half and trying to negative split. Any advice from people who have run this one would be great. I've gone back and read some of the other bloggers reports and that has helped some. Steve's was great! But also seeing that he ran a 2:36 and his training and immediately prior races were much more solid than mine are right now...

Adam, bear in mind that my body was fit but was not tapered properly and therefore sluggish in the first half. I actually negative split that course slightly. Which is unusual for me and that type of course.

So take that into consideration maybe.

Great run today, Adam. I would like to have been out running this afternoon, rather than early am style.

From Bonnie on Wed, Mar 26, 2008 at 16:10:24

Adam, the whole "Garmin part" of your blog is definately geeky. What would anyone expect from a scientist I guess, but I thought I would point it out.

Sorry Bonnie but Chad beat you to that. He pointed out that I was a geek a long time ago. What can I say, I like numbers...

From wheakory on Wed, Mar 26, 2008 at 17:25:37

Adam I'm a geek too. I do computers all day long. I actually have my Garmin downloading to three statistical software packages to get my analysis out of the data.

From Adam RW on Wed, Mar 26, 2008 at 21:30:29

Kory, You got me beat. That's not to say that if I had taken statistics I would probably be doing the same thing...
