Still in Chicago for my meeting. It is a large enough meeting that they have a 5K each year (about 400 entrants for the Run/Walk). The competition is VERY hit or miss. A few years back some guy (national caliber runner from Scotland) came and won the race by over 3 minutes. This year that was not the case, there were a few other competitive runners there but I took the lead at about 100m and was there through the finish. The race was nice. The course started at Soldiers Field and ran most the way to Navy Pier and back. You can tell by my splits that I took it fairly easy.

I ran to and from the start for my warm-up and cool-down. The cool-down I completed with the winner of the woman's race (a former Stanford runner who was there while Ryan Hall was) so that was a fun conversation.

Details:

WU: 2.5 mi Avg. 8:42 HR 139

Race (short course):
1: 5:43 HR 183
2: 5:48 HR 184
3: 5:47 HR 187

CD: 3.5 mi Avg. 9:18 HR 139

Now to finish prepping for my talk this afternoon and the flight home...

Thanks all. It was fun to run in my home town again. It always amazes me how nice it is down along the lake. Considering how large the city is I find it peaceful there in the early morning...
