So ends another year and another chapter in my running. This has been by far one of the best years of my life. I did go in like a Lion and out like a Lamb but the overall was great. I more or less ran the fastest at every distance that I ever have. I also ran the most miles in one year and one month. The weekly title didn't fall but you can't have everything... I learned a lot and relearned a lot as well. The last few months have been hard but I've filled it with lots of other good things, a new daughter, incremental but still progress at work...

What next? Well '09 is planned at this point as a non-year. What I mean by that is that I just want to get and stay healthy. I still have knee pain and though I can run on it I don't want to "train" until it is better. I will focus on health and building back my base to hopefully compete at the "local elite" level again in '10. My plans will be monthly and I'll reassess in that increment until I can do otherwise...

Thank you for all your support!

After a morning of working on the grant from home I ventrued outside for another run. My knee was fairly tight from yesterday so I didn't do anything special. Just a home loop. Avg. 8:23

Here's to a better year this year than last!

From Adam RW on Thu, Jan 01, 2009 at 16:00:29

Thanks. One can only put in the work and see what happens.

James, When did you hit the big 30? It was a great year for me. I hope to be with you on some of those milestones for '09...

From wheakory on Thu, Jan 01, 2009 at 16:01:46

Great approach for the new year Adam. Having a good strategy of building base and staying healthy in 2009 will make 2010 a good competition year for you.

It makes since not to train when a nagging injury will hinder your performance, and could get worst. I need to take lessons from you.

From Jon on Thu, Jan 01, 2009 at 16:03:12

Sickness and injuries stink!

James turns 30 this coming March. So we can enjoy not being in his age group for a little while.

From Adam RW on Thu, Jan 01, 2009 at 16:05:19

Jon, We were both hit hard there. But I think overall I'd have to say '08 was good. You managed a good chunk of mileage and if we could get training again maybe we can cross sub-2:30 together.

From tarzan on Thu, Jan 01, 2009 at 18:09:23

Adam, when did you get injured? Was it at or after St. George?

Best wishes for all your dreams to come true in 2009.

From Adam RW on Thu, Jan 01, 2009 at 22:31:35

The injury was actually before St. George. My initial plan for St. George was sub-2:30 so even though I was VERY happy with my race that day and being able to join Michelle in her great race it wasn’t what my pre-injury fitness would have predicted. It is amazing what a bunch of anti-inflammatory can do for you. That being said I don't want to become a chronic pill popper so after St. George I took some time off and have been easing back into it. If I can't run without pain I back off. Slow going but with everything else going on in my life the last few months I thought it was the best plan of action.
