Today was a rest day. I opted to go on a hike with a friend instead of running. The morning was very busy and I got in the hike to the "Living Room" and beyond (1795 ft climb in 2-miles; 1161 in the 2nd mile alone), then made breakfast with my daughter, some work and church all before noon... I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend.

What a beautiful day. Up early and into work. Ran to and a little up City Creek. Almost no one out at 6am, really nice to have the road to myself. Then worked a little and out for a coffee break on the nearest peak from lab. The view today is just amazing. Now back in lab to finish off the final edits on the review before I sent it off to my boss again. Avg. 8:26 HR 139

Well I got that review article back in my bosses hands a little after 1:30am this morning. Total it is just under 8,000 words and I read at least the abstracts of over 100 other papers. It was a good learning experience. It is a summary of how obesity affects the heart. Specifically, Lipotoxicity of Heart. I'm sure there will be at least one more round of edits before the Sunday due date but it is shaping up. Unfortunately Kristen did not get the memo that it was going to be a hard night and after two nights of sleeping through the night she was up twice in the 5 hr I did try and sleep. So a slugged through the day. Overall, things are coming alone, a talk and poster by Mon and two more abstract by next Friday then back to "normal", whatever that is...
After the girls bedtime I headed out for my home loop. I pushed the pace a little but my knee was feeling the fatigue of the day before so I didn't push it too hard. Avg. 7:13 HR 156

Overall, a good start to the day. In early and two experiments set-up before 7am. Then out the door while the first experiment was on the instrument. Up Dry Creek and over to City Creek via the BST back on the roads, a little over 7 mi of the run was on trails. I saw a ton of beautiful flowers and a number of birds including two hummingbirds and this little bright blue bird. Knee was a little tight but not sore. Back to lab and worked another hour or so before eating lunch while walking on the trails some more. This is something I should do more often; at least for the week we have nice weather. During the walk I saw a deer just up the hill from Red Butte. It was a little awkward eating while hiking but a good use of a half hour. Avg. 8:51 HR 148

Nothing too special. Commute run via Memory Grove. Highlight of the run was a brief Chad spotting. Knee achy today... Avg. 9:42 HR 143

A little sleepy but otherwise feeling good. Knee is less sore and the work continues to move along. The weather was yet again perfect, luckily I got the run in now it will be upper 80s today. I did a Memory Grove/Chad's house loop. Very slow going on the way back. Avg. 8:37 HR 151

Overall another good day. Started off by sleeping in. No that is not a typo, I slept over 8hr last night! Then we all went to SugarHouse for Strut Your Mutt. It is a dog parade and Kaitlyn enjoys seeing all the dogs. We even got to pet a 5-month old Saint Bernard and Bullmastiff. Then it was into work for a few hours. After which I took Kaitlyn on her longest run before dinner. It was a great day for a run until the wind picked up. We had a lot of fun though. Got a little nervous as two vultures circled overhead as I tried to push the stroller uphill against the wind. I'm sure they thought I was going to die... The rest of the run was great and we even stopped to help contribute to two girls with a lemonade stand. Avg 8:00 HR 145
